Your guide to newborn poses

Aly Collins practices a number of poses throughout newborn sessions. The goal of the full newborn session is to achieve all of the poses that the baby will cooperate with. With a mini newborn session clients typically receive 4-5 of these poses. With all things at Aly Collins Photography, safety is the top priority. This means that poses that present a risk will be composites with hands on or near baby at all times.

Tushie Up Pose: This pose is a staple in newborn photography. One of the most simple and most baby-loved poses.

Side Lying: A sweet little pose that most babies like to do!

All Wrapped Up: This is the wrap on the bean bag; there are a few different wraps that ACP does during newborn sessions.

The Lazy Lean: This pose is the brother of bum up. The pose is essentially the same except the back leg is laying against the blanket causing the tushie to be on it’s side (leaning)

Womb Pose: The womb pose is a favorite here at ACP. Babies become so cute and squishy in this little pose, resembling how they were in mama’s belly!

Froggy: Froggy is a parent’s favorite. Something about those squishy little lips and the little fingers on their chubby newborn cheeks!

Post Froggy: Right after the froggy pose the baby is put down onto the cushions for another squishy-faced pose.

Huck Finn: The Huck Finn pose features the baby on their back with their little legs curled up over their bodies.

Taco: Taco pulls the back leg to the elbow and rests those little fingers on the head.

Head On Hands: Not every baby loves this pose, but this pose is just so perfect when it is done. It brings out the best in all babies!

Sleepy Baby Pose: The sleepy baby pose looks simple, but the truth is, not every baby will do it due the high startle risk.

Potato Sack: The potato sack is quickly becoming a fan-favorite. It makes mixing props exceptionally easy and calms baby every time!

Laying in a Prop: Possibly the most simple pose baby does in the studio. This typically includes baby wrapped up in a bowl, bucket or crate.

Front Facing Prop: Another great pose for the squishy little chunks!

Side Laying Prop: Similar to tushie-up but not as strict in a cute little prop.

Sibling Poses: Siblings are tricky… sometimes. Aly Collins has some tricks up her sleeves to help your child feel right at home.

Family Poses: Every mom is encouraged to join in on the poses. Of course dads as well, but moms look so sweet with their newest addition snuggled against them.
